The leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmer, has cast his vote during the parliamentary elections that are taking place in Great Britain during the day, British media reports. Everything points to a landslide victory for his party and for Starmer to become the country's next prime minister.
"Today the future of Great Britain is at stake," Starmer writes in a post on X, along with a picture of himself and wife Victoria at the polling station.
During the day, incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also voted, as did several other party leaders.
In connection with the polling stations closing at 9 p.m., the first polling station survey will be released, indicating how the election has gone.
On Friday, Sunak is expected to visit King Charles to hand in his resignation and shortly afterwards Starmer will be tasked by the king to form a new government.

Starmer: Will not join the EU in my lifetime
Labor leader Keir Starmer, who looks set to be the big winner of today's election, has ruled out Britain rejoining the EU. During a trip to Wales, Starmer was asked about Britain's relations with the Union. Asked if he could see "any circumstances" under which the UK would rejoin the EU's single market, the answer was a straight "no".
- I don't think it will happen. You know, I've been very clear about not rejoining the EU, the single market or the customs union, or a return to free movement," Starmer told the Financial Times.
According to the newspaper, the stance risks becoming a future conflict with the party's pro-EU phalanx. The Guardian writes that Starmer has avoided talking about relations with the EU during the election campaign for fear of repeating the mistakes of the 2019 election, when the party "alienated voters" by promising a second Brexit referendum.
The polling stations open at 08 Swedish time. When all the votes are counted tonight, everything points to the end of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's time in Downing Street.

The Sun backs Labour: "Time for change"
For the first time since 2005, the British tabloid The Sun supports the Labor Party in today's election in Great Britain, writes The Guardian. The newspaper, which traditionally has a conservative profile, has long been very critical in its coverage of the party, but made a complete U-turn the night before the election.
"It's time for change, which means it's time for Labour," the newspaper writes in an editorial.
Labor leader Keir Starmer welcomes the newspaper's stance.
- It really shows how changed this party is, that we are once again serving the working population, he says.
Even conservative The Times expresses cautious support for Labour. In an editorial, the newspaper writes that "democracy needs change" and that Starmer is "sensible, pragmatic and flexible".
