Heavy Democratic strategist James Carville has, in a private conversation with several Democratic donors, urged them to stop donating money to candidates supporting Joe Biden's campaign.
"72 percent of the people want something different. Why not give it to them? They're just asking for another choice," Carville is said to have expressed to dozens of donors on a conference call on Tuesday, reports Semafor, which was able to listen to a recording of the call.
Carville, who has a long history within the party and among other things helped Bill Clinton win the election against George Bush in 1992, is also said to have threatened participants to block them on his phone if they "don't do something about it".
According to Semafor, the conversation testifies to the panic that prevails within the Democrats after Biden's re-witnessed poor performance during the debate against Donald Trump last week.
"If you wake Joe Biden up at three in the morning and ask him who is president, will he answer correctly?" one of the donors is said to have asked.

Joe Biden on the debate: "I made a mistake"
US President Joe Biden admits in a new interview with radio journalist Earl Ingram that the debate with Donald Trump last week did not go well, writes CNN.
- I had a bad evening. In fact, I, you know, set it up. I made a mistake, says Biden in the interview, which will be broadcast in its entirety on Thursday morning.
In the interview, Biden also asks voters to look at his entire three-and-a-half years as president rather than the 90-minute debate.
According to Ingram, during the interview, Biden should not have shown any signs of being about to drop out of the presidential election.
During the night, Biden also sat in a meeting with over 20 Democratic governors who afterwards unanimously announced their support for his candidacy, US media write.
