Donald Trump's age under scrutiny after Biden's defection: "The dynamic has changed"
Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked Joe Biden on the grounds of his age and health, is now the oldest presidential candidate in US history.
When now 59-year-old Kamala Harris appears to be his opponent, the former president risks being forced to endure similar attacks, several media outlets write.
- The dynamic has changed drastically, says political scientist Matthew Foster to AFP.
The Guardian also reports that Trump is now being questioned for his age and health in a way that he did not when Biden was his opponent. The Independent is on the same track.
"Now the spotlight falls on Trump's cognitive ability and capacity to carry out the job until he is over 80," writes the newspaper.
Newsweek has spoken with a spokesperson for Harris' campaign who says that "the people of the United States are rightly concerned."

Kamala Harris has secured the support of delegates, raised millions of dollars and gotten the thumbs up from the party's key players. In an analysis, CNN's Stephen Collinson reminds us that Harris faces big challenges despite the dream start.
If she succeeds in becoming the party's presidential candidate, "the wildest campaign machine in years awaits," he writes, warning that Trump is known for his misogynistic and racist rhetoric.

"The pressure on Harris from Democrats is also enormous".
Aaron Blake at the Washington Post writes that the image of vice presidents is often influenced by their presidents.
“It is likely that many voters did not really consume that much information about Harris. Now they will do it," he writes.
Barbara Miller on Australia's ABC is on the same line. It will be difficult for Harris to distance himself from Biden's handling of the war in Gaza or the American economy.
"Anyone who is dissatisfied with his handling of any of those issues can easily place the blame on her," she writes.

The key dates for Kamala Harris and the Democrats: "We are prepared"
Although Kamala Harris has gathered the necessary support among the party's delegates, a formal process remains before she, or anyone else, is chosen as the Democratic presidential candidate.
Jaime Harrison, chairman of the party's national committee DNC, promised on Monday night that a presidential candidate will be nominated by August 7th. Reuters reports.
There are many indications that it will be Kamala Harris, but the party plans to hold a vote between August 1st and August 5th. Harrison says the work ahead of Democrats is unprecedented.
- But we are prepared to carry out a transparent, fast and orderly process, he says.
The party gathers at its convention in Chicago August 19–22.

JD Vance: Harris speaks condescendingly of our country
On Monday, Donald Trump's vice-presidential candidate JD Vance made his first solo performance since he was appointed, AP writes.
In his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, he took aim at Kamala Harris, joking that he was "pissed off" that now it will probably be Trump who gets to debate her, even though he himself had prepared for it.
He also accused Harris of talking about the country's history in a condescending, rather than appreciative, way. The United States is not perfect, Vance said, continuing:
- But if you want to lead this country, you should feel grateful for it. And I never hear that gratitude when I listen to Kamala Harris.
