Macron: Putin cannot stop foreign troops in Ukraine
If Ukraine wants foreign troops in the country to guarantee that a ceasefire is maintained, Russia has no say in it. This is what French President Emmanuel Macron says according to AFP.
– It is not up to Russia to approve this or not, Macron says.
The French president is also pressing his own government to quickly allocate additional funds for defense, writes Politico. On Thursday, Macron held a meeting with Prime Minister François Bayrou to discuss the extent of the increases in spending. Bayrou said last week that it could take up to two months to find solutions to finance defense.

Starmer: Sooner or later, Putin must negotiate
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has launched a digital summit with 25 allied leaders to discuss the Ukraine war.
In his opening speech, he urges them to continue to put pressure on Russia and demand a ceasefire, according to British media.
– Sooner or later Putin must come to the negotiating table.
If Putin is serious about wanting peace, there is no other option but to stop his attacks on Ukraine, says Starmer.
Starmer holds emergency meeting: "Putin is not serious"
On Saturday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold a virtual meeting with 25 other leaders on Ukraine, AFP reports.
The message is expected to be that it is time for concrete action in light of Russia's response to the ceasefire proposal.
– The Kremlin's total rejection of President Trump's proposal only shows that Putin is not serious about peace, says Starmer.
Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are leading efforts to create a "coalition of the willing" to offer Ukraine security guarantees if a ceasefire or a peace agreement is reached.
Starmer promises "robust plans" for sustainable peace
In connection with Saturday's summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, like Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, states that the ball is now in Russia's court.
- If Putin is serious about peace, it is very simple, he must stop his barbaric attacks on Ukraine and agree to a ceasefire.
The purpose of the summit was primarily to secure a coalition of Western countries that are willing to help protect Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached.
According to Starmer, the meeting has led to several allies "intensifying preparations" for just this, and that "robust plans" will be determined next week.
