The US questions the UN in a questionnaire - may be about to stop humanitarian work
The US government has sent out a questionnaire to the UN's humanitarian organizations, reports the BBC.
One of the 36 questions reads:
“Can you confirm that your organization does not cooperate with any actor linked to communist, socialist or totalitarian parties, or any party that holds anti-American views?”
The organizations are also asked if they receive any funding from China, Russia, Cuba or Iran, all of which are UN member states and contribute to the funding.
In addition, the US wants to know if the groups are in any way working on DEI (diversity, equality and inclusion) or climate change.
Many organizations fear that this is the prelude to the US stopping all humanitarian work – or cutting ties with the UN altogether.
“The decision has already been made. It is highly likely that the US will stop participating in the UN system altogether,” says Karl Blanchet, professor of humanitarian public health at the University of Geneva.

Trump continues to cut - seven agencies affected
On Friday, Donald Trump signed a presidential order to cut the activities of seven agencies to the statutory minimum level, Reuters reports.
This applies to the US Agency for Global Media, which finances the foreign radio channels Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Asia.
Among the other agencies whose activities are being cut are the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which finances libraries and museums, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, which works against homelessness, and the Minority Business Development Agency, which works for minority business.
Schumer may hang loose - anger within the Democrats
The Democratic minority leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, enraged large parts of his party when he voted yes to the Republican budget yesterday to avoid a government shutdown. This is reported by Politico.
Critics say he has capitulated rather than fight for party policy, and several are now considering trying to impeach him. Not even the House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, is coming to his defense.
“Next question,” he said when reporters asked if new leadership was needed in the Senate.

The US's rapprochement with Russia has a simple explanation: Donald Trump loves Russia, according to experts DN spoke to.
Like Putin, Trump believes in power and control, and sees the liberal world order and its rules as weaknesses, according to Stephen Zunes, a professor of politics at the University of San Francisco.
In addition, Russia has long built a relationship with Trump through investments, cooperation and rescuing him from economic difficulties, says Russia analyst Stefan Ingvarsson at the Swedish Institute of Foreign Policy.
- I would say that it is about over three decades of successful "grooming" on the Russian side.
