Baidu to challenge Deepseek with reasoning AI model
Baidu has released a new AI model, Ernie X1, which focuses on logical reasoning. The aim is to take on rivals, including the noted startup Deepseek, writes Bloomberg.
The company has also upgraded its flagship model and made its chatbot services free for users. Baidu claims that Ernie 4.5 outperforms OpenAI's GPT 4.5 by industry standards.
On June 30, Baidu plans to make its AI models open to developers. The AI boom has given Baidu a big boost in cloud revenue, but weak advertising sales are weighing on results.

Open AI and Musk agree to speed up litigation
Elon Musk and OpenAI have agreed to speed up the legal process surrounding the ChatGPT owner's transition to becoming a for-profit company, writes Reuters. The parties propose in a joint submission to the court that negotiations be held in December.
Earlier in March, a judge rejected Elon Musk's request to pause the AI company's rebranding, but in return agreed to ensure that negotiations get underway this fall.
In a blog post, OpenAI welcomes the court's decision to reject "Musk's latest attempt to slow down OpenAI for his own gain" and refers to the fact that the Tesla billionaire runs his own competing AI company, XAI.
