Republican heavyweight wants to strike Iran's energy infrastructure
Republican heavyweight Senator Lindsey Graham is signaling that he thinks the United States should attack Iran's energy infrastructure, something Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to do. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," he says that the negotiations have reached the end of the road.
- Energy infrastructure is their weak point. If we resume fighting, I would put energy at the top of the list, Graham says.
When pressed further about whether his words should be interpreted as a call to attack, Graham responds that he wants to see the Iranian regime "damaged more severely."
- Maybe they'll agree to a deal if we hurt them enough.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack both energy infrastructure and desalination plants, which would constitute war crimes under international law, writes Politico.
Former Trump ally: "Stop the war - it's stupid"
Former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene predicts a "political revolution" in the United States if Donald Trump decides to deploy ground troops in Iran.
"End the war. It's stupid," she writes in a post on X.
Greene was previously a close ally of Trump but has recently broken with him and instead begun to criticize him harshly on several issues.
Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday that "the clock is ticking" when it comes to Iran.
"They have to get started quickly, or there will be none left of them. Time is running out!" he wrote without elaborating.
Trump Threatens Iran: “There Will Be Nothing Left”
Donald Trump is issuing a new threat to Iran in a post on Truth Social.
“The clock is ticking for Iran, and they have to act quickly, or there will be nothing left of them. Time is running out!” he writes.
On Friday, aboard Air Force One on the way home from China, the president said he was “losing patience” with Iran.
Peace talks between the countries have stalled again after Trump called Iran’s latest counteroffer “garbage” and dismissed it. He has also called the ceasefire “unbelievably weak.”
The sticking point is Iran’s nuclear program. Trump wants it to be completely dismantled and for the United States to take over all of the country’s enriched uranium, which Iran refuses.
