Sweden is concerned that others will reduce their own support for Ukraine now that the EU's 90 billion euro loan to Kiev is complete.

- I am afraid that a lot of countries will lean back and refer to this instead of maintaining their bilateral support that comes on top of the loan, says Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) in connection with the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Helsingborg.

According to her, the commitments to Ukraine this year are around 33 billion kronor, so far. Last year the sum was 40 billion.

Malmer Stenergard hopes for a German initiative that would see national support added to the EU loan, as a supplement.

– I will raise this at the meeting.

Germany has also proposed a model for Ukraine's path towards the EU that would make Ukraine an associate member first. This is welcomed by Sweden.
