Donald Trump's peace council has an empty account: "Zero dollars"
Donald Trump's so-called peace council has no money at all in its fund at the World Bank that will be used to rebuild Gaza, reports the Financial Times.
- Zero dollars have been deposited, an informed source says according to the newspaper.
When the council was launched in January, member countries pledged a total of around 17 billion dollars. But since then, only smaller sums have been paid in, and then via an account at the commercial bank JP Morgan, where they cannot be controlled by outside parties.
According to the FT, the council's planned work has also been stuck in political and legal limbo and is largely at a standstill.
The peace council — that's the point
- In January 2026, Donald Trump launched a new "peace council" with the aim of creating global peace, to which over 60 countries, including Sweden, were invited.
- The council has been criticized for concentrating power in Trump himself and is demanding a billion dollars for permanent membership, which has aroused skepticism in Europe and caused several countries to decline.
- At the inauguration in Davos, Hungary's Viktor Orbán and Argentina's Javier Milei, among others, signed, while Sweden, France, Norway and the United Kingdom declined to participate.
- The council held its first meeting in February 2026 with a focus on Gaza, but several member countries have not paid promised contributions and the council is reported to be short of money.
- The United States is planning a UN-approved military base in Gaza with 5,000 soldiers from the council's member countries, but implementation is being hampered by funding problems and non-payment of contributions.
