Republican Crisis Following Election Debacle: “Civil War”
The Republicans’ crushing defeat in the midterm elections has triggered an internal crisis, reports NBC News. Several party representatives describe it as a historic setback and are questioning Donald Trump’s future.
“Everything is going to change now. We are moving rapidly toward a post-Trump future. This is a total rout, and we’re going to have a civil war,” a Republican strategist told the network.
According to Scott Howell, a Republican campaign strategist in Texas, voters are furious—and, above all, they are angry at Donald Trump.
“And when voters get angry, this is exactly what happens. It’s called democracy,” he told the television network.
The election defeat also carries major consequences for the president. The Democrats are taking control of Congress and have already announced plans to investigate his administration. Furthermore, Trump will become dependent on their support to enact his policies.
By early this morning, it was clear that the Democrats had secured a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Vance: We Lost the Election Because of the War with Iran
Vice President JD Vance blames the Republicans’ election results on the war with Iran.
“Everyone knows why we lost,” he writes on X.
In his post, Vance writes that the issue is not voter turnout, but rather that many people who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election voted for the Democrats in the midterms. Vance says he asked such voters what it would take for them to return to the Republican fold. The responses included ending the war, focusing on the cost of living, “putting the USA first,” and changing the U.S. relationship with Israel.
Sources: Trump Considers Firing Pete Hegseth
Donald Trump is considering firing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and has asked his advisors whether or not he should be replaced, sources tell CBS News.
No definitive decision has been made, but one source suggests that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a possible alternative.
The war with Iran and its consequences have been identified as one of the primary reasons for the Republican debacle in the midterm elections; furthermore, the fact that the Democrats are taking control of both chambers increases the likelihood that they will attempt to impeach Hegseth.
