Elon Musk has fired half of Twitter's staff since the takeover.

Now founder Jack Dorsey is apologizing.

"I realize that many people are angry with me," he writes on Twitter.

Tesla founder Elon Musk began his time as Twitter owner by drastically reducing the company's workforce.

Nearly half of the 7,500 employees were fired via email after Musk announced that the company was losing $4 million a day.

"Unfortunately, there is no choice," Musk says, blaming activist groups for pushing advertisers to flee the company.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who supported Musk, is now coming out and apologizing for growing the company "too fast" under his leadership.

“People on Twitter, then and now, are strong and resilient. They will always find a way no matter how difficult it is at the time," he writes in a tweet and continues:

"I realize that many people are angry with me. I own the responsibility for why everyone ended up in this situation: The company grew too fast. I apologize for that".

Safety is top priority

Twitter's chief security officer Yoel Roth says only 15 percent of those fired work with security and trust on the platform. Something he believes will be important before the upcoming mid-term elections in the United States.

"With early voting underway in the United States, our efforts on election integrity — including harmful disinformation that can suppress voting and combating government-sponsored information efforts — remain a top priority," he wrote on Twitter.
