Study: Climate change killed apes and humans
The heat wave that hit North and Central America in late May and early June was a result of climate change. This is reported by several media with reference to a study by the organization World Weather Attribution.
In the study, the researchers conclude that human use of fossil fuels had an impact equivalent to 1.4 degrees Celsius during the hottest five days of the heat wave.
- The extra 1.4 degrees meant the difference between life and death for many people during May and June, says researcher Karina Izquierdo to the BBC.
The heat wave led to the death of at least 125 people. It also contributed to the high-profile mass die-off of howler monkeys in Mexico.

UN: 80 percent globally want to see tougher climate measures
80 percent of the world's population wants to see tougher climate action from governments worldwide, according to a new survey from the UN development program UNDP, Oxford University and Geo poll. This is reported by AFP.
A total of 75,000 people are included in the survey, which is the largest of its kind.
- It shows that people understand how little time we have left to act, says Achim Steiner, head of UNDP, to TT.
