The number of dead hostages in Gaza may be higher than previously thought, according to information provided to the Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper has spoken to mediators and people with knowledge of US intelligence assessments who say the number of dead hostages in Gaza could be as high as 66. That is 25 more than previous estimates from Israel and would mean only 50 hostages are alive.
Neither Israel, the US nor Hamas want to comment on the data.
During the terrorist attack on October 7 last year, Hamas kidnapped an estimated 250 people. Of those, 116 are still in Gaza.

Hezbollah leader threatens Cyprus ahead of feared major war
The EU country Cyprus risks becoming a target in a future war between Hezbollah and Israel, says Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah according to Reuters.
Cyprus and Israel have a defense cooperation and the countries have carried out several defense exercises together.
- Opening Cypriot airports and military bases to Israel to attack Lebanon would make the government of Cyprus a party to the war. And the resistance movement will deal with the country as a warring party, Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Wednesday.
In recent days, tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have increased. Earlier this week, the Shia Muslim militia published drone images of military infrastructure in Israel. Shortly thereafter, the Israeli military announced that a plan for an offensive in Lebanon had been approved.
