Confirmed: Rutte is the only candidate for the NATO job
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is now officially announcing that he is withdrawing his application to become the next Secretary General of NATO, according to several news agencies.
Iohannis also says he supports Dutchman Mark Rutte, who is the only remaining candidate to succeed Jens Stoltenberg.
Already on Tuesday, several media reported, citing sources, that Iohannis would throw in the towel.

SD's party group looks set to become the third largest in the EU
The right-wing nationalist party group ECR looks set to become the third largest in the EU Parliament. On Wednesday, the group announced that it will gain eleven new members and move towards 83 mandates, writes Politico.
Currently, the liberal group Renew, which includes French President Macron's Renaissance party, has 80 seats. Renew still has the opportunity to introduce new members before the July 4 deadline.
Among others, the Sweden Democrats and the Italian government party Italy's Brothers sit in the ECR.

The EU wants to close loopholes with a new sanctions package
The member states of the EU have agreed on a new sanctions package against Russia, reports AFP. The package is the 14th in the series and includes, among other things, measures to close previous loopholes.
According to Euronews, it is the first time that the sanctions target deliveries of liquefied natural gas, so-called LNG.
However, details of the package have not yet been made public.
