Putin visits Vietnam - a test of 'bamboo diplomacy'

Vladimir Putin will meet Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi on Thursday, the AFP news agency reports. This after Russia - which is pressured by international sanctions - has signed a defense agreement with North Korea.

Both the US and China have faced off against Vietnam in recent months.

According to Huong Le Thu, deputy director of the Asia program at the International Crisis Group, Russia's visit will be a test of Vietnam's so-called "bamboo diplomacy," the country's long tradition of managing its relations with other countries with flexibility.

According to the expert, it remains to be seen how far Vietnam can go and whether the strategy continues to be accepted.

Law: Louisiana classrooms must display the Ten Commandments

The ten commandments of Christianity must be seen in the classrooms. It decided Louisiana as the first US state on Wednesday, according to the AP.

Every classroom, from preschools to state-funded universities, must have the Ten Commandments posted in "large, easy-to-read font" from the beginning of next year, the law says.

The law has been pushed through by Republican Governor Jeff Landry and has drawn much criticism. It is expected to be subject to legal proceedings.

Researchers on the deaths: We lose our judgment in the heat

Greece is plagued by a heat wave that has not only led to forest fires. In recent weeks, at least five tourists have been found dead and an American man and two French women are missing after hiking in 40-degree heat.

The causes of death have not been determined, but the heat is believed to have been a contributing factor in several of the cases. CNN has spoken to scientists who say high temperatures can cause people to lose judgment and make potentially life-threatening decisions, such as exercising in intense heat.

"No matter how intelligent or fit you think you are... if you go out in 40-degree heat, you're challenging fate, even if you're well prepared," says Damian Bailey, professor of physiology and biochemistry, to CNN.
