Russia and the US meet again – but not about Ukraine

Russia and the US are meeting again on Thursday in Istanbul to discuss the reopening of their respective embassies, AFP reports.

– No issues related to politics or security are on the agenda, and Ukraine is absolutely not on the agenda, says US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.

This is the second time the countries have met to discuss a partial reopening of the embassies, which were scaled back sharply after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Sources: US plans to withdraw troops in Europe

High-ranking people within the US Department of Defense are considering withdrawing up to 10,000 soldiers from Eastern Europe, sources tell NBC.

This concerns a troop that was deployed to Eastern Europe during Biden's presidency, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. If the proposal that is reportedly being discussed becomes a reality, it means that half of the soldiers that were deployed at the time will be withdrawn.

Medvedev: More countries will acquire nuclear weapons

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says that more and more countries in the world will acquire nuclear weapons, Reuters reports.

He also accuses the West of "pushing the world towards a third world war". Medvedev was president from 2008 to 2012 between Vladimir Putin's two terms in office. He called himself a "modernizer" at the time but has since been described as a Kremlin loyalist, according to Reuters.

"The world will create a new, more destructive type of weapons, and new countries will have nuclear arsenals," Medvedev writes on Telegram.
