Vance: We want Greenland "come hell or high water"
The US wants to annex Greenland, whatever the cost. That is Vice President JD Vance's message in an interview with the conservative media house Newsmax.
In the interview, Vance claims that people in Greenland "have made it very clear that they want to become independent from Denmark", and that the US needs Greenland for its national security.
- And we will defend the interests of the US come hell or high water, says Vance.
Just yesterday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned Greenlanders that "the storm has only just begun".
Rubio: Greenlanders do not want to be part of Denmark
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that the US respects Greenland's right to choose its own future, reports AFP. But he also says that the US “will not allow Greenland to become dependent on China”.
He also urges Denmark to “focus on the fact that the Greenlanders do not want to be part of Denmark”, reports Danish TV2.
– The Greenlanders will make a decision, says Rubio.
The battle between the US and Denmark over the future of Greenland has recently escalated further. Right now, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is on the island and yesterday, US Vice President JD Vance said that the US will annex Greenland “at any cost”.

Analysis: US puts enormous pressure on Denmark – again
It is positive for the Danish government that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that the Greenlanders themselves decide on the future of Greenland, writes DR's Jens Ringberg in an analysis.
But for the Danish side, there are still problems, he says. Rubio is silent on the fact that the residents of Greenland made a clear statement in the March election that they do not want to be part of the United States, and the foreign minister is very selective when he reports what Donald Trump has actually said about American control over the self-governing Danish island.
“The Danish government can take note of Rubio’s statement and hope that Trump does not say anything different the next time he has the opportunity.”
TV2’s European correspondent Lise Toft Hessellund says that Rubio’s claim that Greenland does not want to be part of Denmark does not correspond to reality. They have clearly shown that they want to be part of the so-called rigsfællesskabet, she says.
– Enormous pressure is being put on Denmark again.
