The ship attacks
Experts: US attacks may be good for the Houthis
The US bombing campaign has definitely weakened the Houthis' military capabilities, but it is also a militia that has been attacked again and again over the past decade, experts tell CNN.
- The Houthis are simply used to being at war with a high-tech military power, says Michael Knights of the Washington Institute think tank.
Each US attack spurs resistance and the Houthis may actually appreciate them - they are "a direct answer to the Houthis' prayers for a war against the United States," says Farea Al-Muslimi, who researches Yemen for Chatham House.
Diplomatic sources as well as analysts tell CNN that ultimately only a ground offensive can drive away the Houthi militia, which currently controls the capital Sanaa, the largest port of Hodeidah and large parts of northern Yemen.
Le Pen verdict
Demonstrations expected in Paris – for Le Pen
France's far-right plans to demonstrate on Sunday to show support for Marine Le Pen, who was convicted of embezzlement on Monday, AFP reports.
The verdict means that Le Pen will not be allowed to run in the 2027 presidential election, something that has drawn strong criticism from her supporters. She has appealed the verdict.
"French people. Let's mobilize to defend freedom, save democracy and support Marine!" Le Pen's National Rally party wrote ahead of today's protest in Paris.
Party leader Jordan Bardella has said that the verdict will only increase support for the National Rally, and that today's demonstration is for, not against, French democracy. At the same time, the country's left-wing movement is planning counter-demonstrations.

At least 30 people have been killed by heavy rains and widespread flooding in the capital of Congo-Kinshasa, Kinshasa.
Many people have also been injured and the storm has also caused significant material damage, an official said.
More than half of the city is inaccessible and it is also not possible to reach the airport due to collapsed roads.
A main road that has collapsed connects the capital to the rest of the country - and has led to concerns about how trade will be affected.
At least 100 people died during a similar flood in Kinshasa in 2022.

Hassett: Conversations are the reason for the lack of Russian tariffs
The fact that Russia, as one of the few countries, was exempted from Donald Trump's new tariffs is due to the ongoing negotiations on the Ukraine war. This is what the president's national economic advisor Kevin Hassett tells ABC News. When asked by the host why, Hassett replies that "a lot of new things" are not being put on the table during the ongoing negotiations.
- This does not mean that in the long run Russia will be treated completely differently than all other countries, says Kevin Hassett in the interview.

A new meeting between Russia and the US may take place as early as next week. This is what Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriyev tells the Russian pro-regime television channel Channel One, several news agencies report.
Dmitriyev recently visited Washington and he says that he experiences a "positive dynamic" in the relationship between the countries. He has previously played an important role in building the relationship between the countries during Donald Trump's first term as president.
