Analysis: Trump Doesn't Explain Why War with Iran Is on the Table
Donald Trump has made little effort to explain why American troops could be deployed in a potential war with Iran, writes CNN's Stephen Collinson in an analysis.
"Given what is at stake and the potential risk to American personnel, it is surprising that there is no clear public justification for a possible war with Iran," he writes.
The New York Times' David Sanger writes in an analysis that George W Bush, unlike Trump, traveled the country and the world arguing that Saddam Hussein's regime and weapons posed a threat to the United States. The arguments that Bush raised have since been largely refuted, especially the claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
“But if Bush based his reasoning on false premises, President Trump, who is facing the decision to launch a second major military attack on Iran in less than a year, has based his reasoning on almost no premises at all,” writes Sanger.
Iran Signals That the Country is Preparing for War
Iran has taken steps that signal that the country is preparing for war, reports CNN.
This is happening at the same time as tensions between Iran and the United States are increasing and the United States may be ready to carry out an attack as early as the weekend.
According to CNN, Iran has begun to strengthen its nuclear facilities and has been expanding its missile facilities for a long time.
The country's leadership has also appointed several war veterans to the security cabinet, conducted naval exercises in the Persian Gulf and intensified crackdowns on domestic opposition.
