Chip battle

Meta to buy millions of Nvidia chips in multi-year deal

Meta is to buy millions of Nvidia chips under a new multi-year deal. This is stated in a press release, CNBC and FT write.

No amounts have been communicated, but Creative Strategies' chief analyst Ben Bajarin believes that it is likely to be several billion dollars. He also believes that "a significant part" of Meta's capex of $ 135 billion in 2026 will go to Nvidia.

In addition to graphics processors, Meta will also buy Nvidia's standalone central processing units (CPUs) - something that marks a broader technical collaboration between the companies.

- Meta's doing this on a large scale is a confirmation of Nvidia's overall strategy around both CPU and GPU infrastructure, says Bajarin.

Huang: "No one is implementing AI on Meta's scale"

Meta and Nvidia's expanded partnership will provide significant improvements and more energy-efficient AI on a large scale. Meta writes this in a press release after the social media giant committed to buying millions of Nvidia chips over several years.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang comments and says that it is helping Meta “build the foundation for the next AI era.”

“No one is implementing AI on Meta’s scale – where groundbreaking research is integrated with industrial-scale infrastructure to power the world’s largest personalization and recommendation system for billions of users,” he says.
