New statement suggests Khamenei's son will take over
Iran's Council of Experts suggests that Mojtaba Khamenei will take over as the new supreme leader, writes Reuters.
He is the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli attack.
- The name Khamenei will remain, says one of the members, without confirming who the replacement will be.
An official announcement is expected "soon".
Trump: Iran's next leader "will not be long-term"
Iran's new supreme leader will not "be long-term" without approval from the US, says President Donald Trump in an interview with ABC News.
- We want to make sure that we don't have to go back every ten years, says Trump.
Trump answers in the affirmative when asked if he would approve a leader who has connections to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's regime.
– I would, to choose a good leader I would, yes. There are several people who could be qualified.
Iran has chosen a new leader – does not want to reveal who
On Sunday, Iran's Council of Experts decided who should be appointed as the new Supreme Leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reports AFP. The group does not yet want to say who has been chosen.
Mohsen Heydari, one of the council members, tells state media that "the most suitable candidate" has been chosen.
Previously, there have been reports that the Ayatollah's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader.
This morning, the Israeli military wrote in a statement that they see every new leader as a target.
"We warn everyone who intends to participate in appointing the successor that we will not hesitate to target you too," the IDF writes on X.
