The right is facing the left as Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez compete for the presidency in Peru.

It will be clear when the votes are counted after the first round of the presidential election on April 12, where neither candidate managed to get a majority.

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, received just over 17 percent of the vote in the first round, while left-wing politician Roberto Sánchez received 12 percent.

Ultra-conservative Rafael López Aliaga was just over 21,000 votes short of overtaking Sánchez, finishing with 11.9 percent without a chance of running in the second round on June 7.

Both Fujimori and Sánchez have tried to become president of Peru before, Fujimori is running for the fourth time and Sánchez for the third time.
