Greenland Crisis US Threat

Greenland: The US Still Seems to Want to Own Us – but Listens Better

Greenlandic ministers met today with US Ambassador to Denmark Ken Howery and Trump's special envoy Jeff Landry, Danish TV2 reports.

- The meeting was held in a good tone and with mutual respect, says Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen at a press conference.

When asked whether the US still intends to own Greenland, Nielsen says that the meeting "did not give any indications that anything has changed", but that he feels that the Americans are more willing to listen.

- It was a courtesy meeting. We underlined the Greenlandic position regarding the self-determination of our country, our people and the repeated threats against our country over the heads of the people.

US Doctors in Greenland to “Assess Healthcare Needs”

US Greenland Envoy Jeff Landry is bringing American doctor Joseph Griffin with him during his visit to Nuuk. Griffin's task is to "assess Greenland's medical needs," Danish media reports.

Greenland's Minister of Health Anna Wangenheim writes in a Linkedin post that it is "deeply problematic when people with a political mission to make Greenland part of the US send a so-called 'volunteer doctor' to 'assess our needs.'"

The Greenlandic government perceives Joseph Griffin's presence as frivolous, according to TV2 correspondent Martin Selsøe Sørensen.

- No one disputes that there are health problems in this gigantic country, but the solution to that is not for a doctor from Louisiana to go around and look and for a hospital ship to arrive from the US.
