At least ten people have committed suicide in the custody of the US immigration agency ICE since Donald Trump took office as US president in 2025, according to an investigation by the AP news agency.

Suicides in the US immigration agency's detention center are increasing. At least ten people, all of whom are men, have committed suicide since January 2025. Nine of the men were Latin American migrants and one was Chinese. Seven out of ten had not committed violent crimes in the US.

Usually, single, or no, suicides are recorded annually in ICE detention centers.

Police personnel have ignored warning signs, delayed treatment for mental illness and failed to monitor people at high risk of suicide in custody, the review shows.

The AP's review is based on ICE data, autopsy reports, medical examiner's orders and police records.
