Orpo: Foreign power may be behind the break-ins
A foreign power may be behind the mysterious break-ins at the homes of Finnish Members of Parliament, says Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, according to Yle.
"It is quite possible in these times," he says.
Since last week, a number of MPs have been subjected to suspected break-ins at their homes. Nothing has been stolen, but certain signs were left behind—likely so that the break-ins would be discovered.
Security expert Henri Vanhanen tells the broadcaster that the suspected break-ins resemble a well-known Russian operational pattern.
Mysterious break-ins at Finnish MPs' homes: "Meant to be discovered"
A "significant" number of Members of Parliament in Finland have been subjected to suspected break-ins at their homes. This was stated by Jussi Halla-aho, the Speaker of Parliament, according to TT. The incidents have been going on for several months, or perhaps even longer. The intrusions are described as difficult to detect and have affected politicians from various parties.
"There are no signs of forced entry or theft, but marks left behind have been found, and it is believed that they are meant to be discovered," says Jussi Halla-aho.
Last week, Parliament held an urgent meeting where politicians were informed about the incidents and warned of intrusions potentially linked to a foreign power. The police have initiated a preliminary investigation.
