Sources: US-Kremlin talks now focus on oil deal for Trump's associates
Talks between the US and Russia regarding peace in Ukraine have taken a new turn: a multi-billion-dollar oil deal that would benefit Middle Eastern businessmen linked to Trump’s negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. This is according to sources cited by *The New York Times*.
The talks concern a number of oil facilities around the world owned by the Russian oil giant Lukoil. The group seeking to acquire them includes American investor Todd Boehly—who has donated millions to Trump—and Middle Eastern businessmen linked to Witkoff’s family and Kushner.
Trump has repeatedly advocated for business deals with Russia, calling it "a fantastic opportunity." Kushner and Witkoff have highlighted new economic ties to the West as a way to persuade Putin to compromise on the war in Ukraine.
