Vilnius Airport closed following drone alert
The airport in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, has been closed after the sighting of what may be a drone, according to the country's National Crisis Management Center, as reported by the public broadcaster LRT.
Authorities sent a message to the public urging people to "locate the nearest air-raid shelter and await updates." Shortly thereafter, a new message was issued stating that the danger had passed and that the public could "resume their normal activities."
Fighter jets were scrambled following the alert.
"We are receiving reports from residents who have spotted a possible object," Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the Crisis Management Center, told the broadcaster.
"However, we cannot confirm this, as the information comes from the public."
