A helicopter has crashed into the Hudson River, New York police say.
Six people have died, according to the AP.
The helicopter was flying over the river when it “split in half, according to the emergency services.
A video from the scene shows how helicopter parts fly away and land in the river.
– It was a big splash, it was very scary, Eric Campoverde tells ABC.
According to WCBS, at least two adults and three children were on board, according to ABC. The TV channel writes that they are tourists from Spain.
According to the AP news agency, six people have died.
“Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, near the West Side Highway and Spring Street, you can expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the area.”
The Coast Guard has stopped boat traffic in the area.
The helicopter wreckage is now floating in the river surrounded by police boats.
The accident is being investigated by the US Federal Aviation Administration and the Accident Investigation Board, the government writes on X.
