Americans evacuated from military bases near Iran

The United States is moving forces from military bases in the Middle East, The New York Times reports. Fears of a major war with Iran are growing.
Hundreds of soldiers are said to have been moved from the US al-Udeid air base in Qatar. This also applies to personnel at a cluster of US bases in Bahrain, according to the newspaper's information from US officials.
The evacuations are taking place in light of escalating tensions between Iran and the US, where President Donald Trump is trying to pressure the Iranians to agree to a new agreement on the country's nuclear energy program. At the same time, the US has mobilized its military around Iran at an unprecedented pace in recent weeks.
al-Udeid is the largest US base in the Middle East with around 10,000 soldiers. The air base was attacked by Iran during the 12-day war against Israel in June.
