Iran's foreign minister has landed for talks with the US
Iran and the US are expected to begin talks on the former country's nuclear energy program shortly, several American media outlets report.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi landed early Friday morning in Muscat, Oman, where he is to meet with the US's special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
The talks are being held in a very tense situation, according to the BBC. Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened new attacks on Iran and has moved an aircraft carrier to the area. Iran has said it has its "finger on the trigger" and is ready to respond to any attack.
US and Iran negotiate under threat of attack
Iran and the US began new indirect talks on the Iranian nuclear program on Friday. The meeting is taking place in a tense situation where the US has not ruled out the possibility of military action against Iran if diplomacy fails, AFP reports.
The Iranian side has been adamant that the talks will only concern the nuclear program, while the US also wants to talk about Iran's support for militant groups and the country's ballistic missile program.
SVT reports, citing media sources, that the goal from the American side is for Iran's uranium enrichment to be temporarily stopped completely. After that, a lower level will be allowed compared to previous agreements.
Satellite images show: Iran has repaired bombed facilities
Iran has rapidly repaired several of the military facilities that were damaged in US bombings last year. This is reported by the New York Times, which reviewed satellite images. In particular, the facilities for the production of ballistic missiles have been repaired, while the nuclear facilities have been repaired to a significantly lesser extent.
According to the newspaper, this shows Iran's military priorities - if the US were to attack, Iran is expected to retaliate with ballistic missiles against targets in the region.
Representatives from the US and Iran are currently in Oman for negotiations, primarily about Iran's nuclear energy program.
