Trump backs Orbán ahead of election: “A true friend”

Hungary’s Viktor Orbán has achieved “phenomenal results”, according to US President Donald Trump – who is supporting the prime minister in the upcoming election.

Orbán is “a true friend, fighter and winner” and has Trump’s “complete and total” support, the president writes on Truth Social.

The relationship between Hungary and the US “has reached new heights of cooperation and spectacular success” under both leaders, Trump continues.

The EU’s longest-serving leader responds on Facebook by thanking the president.

After 16 years in power, Orbán is aiming for a fifth term in the election on April 12. For the first time in a long time, however, there is a strong challenger in the very popular conservative opposition leader Péter Magyar.
