Trump launches drug discount website tonight
At 1 a.m. Swedish time, Donald Trump will launch the Trump Rx website, which the administration presented last fall, White House staffers tell Axios.
There, Americans will be able to buy drugs at discounted prices via a government portal, which the White House has negotiated with manufacturers.
Among other things, drugs from the giants Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, EMD Serono, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk will be sold, according to the sources.
- It's about affordability, says an adviser to Trump.
The drugs are said to be sold for direct payment, which benefits those who do not have health insurance.
The Trumprx.gov site is up on Thursday evening with a countdown to 1 a.m.
The war on the media
Expert: Washington Post has become less independent under Jeff Bezos
The Washington Post's decision to lay off a third of its staff has been described as a "complete bloodbath" and has been heavily criticized by the industry, including former employees.
It has long been an incredibly important newspaper with wide coverage, North American researcher Dag Blanck tells DN. It has been awarded 76 Pulitzer Prizes and exposed the Watergate scandal, among other things.
The newspaper's reputation has deteriorated since the Jeff Bezos purchase in 2013. Many profiles have been furious and resigned after Bezos refused to let the editorial page take a stand for Kamala Harris in the election and set guidelines for which opinions would be published.
- They felt that there was a certain control, and that the newspaper had adapted too far to Trump's side. There are some trends that independence has decreased since Jeff Bezos took office, says Blanck.
Strong reactions: "A reprehensible pattern"
Yesterday, the news came that the respected newspaper Washington Post is laying off a third of its staff and, among other things, scrapping its entire sports editorial team. The reactions have been many and strong.
Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren believes that the decision is political and an attempt to slap President Donald Trump, who according to Warren "attacks journalism everywhere." She said this in a conversation with journalist Don Lemon, who was arrested during protests in Minneapolis a few days ago, writes The Wrap.
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi is on the same line, writes The Guardian. She believes that the layoffs are part of "a larger, reprehensible pattern" of decisions that are eroding editorial staff throughout the United States.
“Let’s make no mistake: we live in a time when the First Amendment to the US Constitution is under severe pressure here at home,” she said at the Washington Press Club’s annual dinner for congressional reporters yesterday.
DN’s editor-in-chief Peter Wolodarski is also critical. He tells Dagens Media that it is clear that owner Jeff Bezos “has lost his interest in serious journalism.”
