Known drug kingpin extradited to US from Bolivia

Drug smuggler Sebastian Marset, who has been wanted by the police for many years, has been extradited to the US after being arrested in Bolivia during the day. This is reported by AFP, among others.

Marset was arrested in Santa Cruz, and hundreds of police officers participated in the operation, according to a journalist on site.

Cuba confirms ongoing talks with the US

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel confirms in a speech that his government is holding talks with the US to “find solutions” to the problems between the countries through dialogue. This is reported by the Washington Post.

– We want to avoid manipulation and speculation. The talks are still in their first phase, the president said during a press conference after the speech.

US President Donald Trump has said that he will turn his attention to Cuba after the war with Iran. He has also said that Cuba “will fall”.

US media have previously reported that secret meetings are taking place between top politicians from the US and Cuba.

Bolsonaro hospitalized – condition “serious”

Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro – who is now serving a 27-year prison sentence – has been hospitalized with pneumonia, Reuters reports.

A doctor tells the news agency that Bolsonaro’s condition is “serious”, but that surgery is not being considered at this time. According to the hospital, the ex-president is being treated with antibiotics.

Bolsonaro has previously had problems with his health, including surgery after he was stabbed during a campaign rally in 2018. During his prison sentence, he has also been treated for chronic hiccups, and for falling and hitting his head in January.
