Ali Khamenei had one last wish.
The new leader would be “hated by the enemy”.
Now he has been chosen, according to state-controlled media.
Iran's Council of Experts has appointed a new Supreme Leader, according to Iranian state media.
The council consists of 88 people, all of whom were selected because of their loyalty to the regime, writes Sky News.
The successor is said to have been chosen according to the killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He is to be hated by the enemy.
“Even the great Satan has mentioned his name”, says one of the men in the council.
The son of slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been singled out as a likely successor. Donald Trump has said Khamenei is an “unacceptable choice”.
The 56-year-old was slightly injured in an attack on Iran on Saturday.
Israel and the US have said that whoever takes over the Revolutionary Guard will be targeted.
