Israeli settlers enter Syria – arrested by IDF

The Israeli army IDF has arrested around 40 settler activists who crossed the border into Syria on foot. This is reported by Israeli media.

In a clip published by the Israeli television channel Kan, activists can be seen barricading themselves on a roof on the outskirts of the Syrian village of Hader several hundred meters into Syria, according to AFP. They were then arrested by the IDF and handed over to Israeli police.

The settler organization “Pioneers of Bashan” publishes images from the incident on X and writes that the Israeli military needs support from civilian settlements: “We will stay until they let our families come and settle here.”

The group has made similar incursions several times before, according to the Times of Israel.

Another French UN soldier has died from his injuries after Saturday's attack in Lebanon, AFP reports. The terrorist group Hezbollah is suspected of being behind the attack, according to French President Emmanuel Macron. The group denies the accusations.

Another French soldier died on Saturday. Two more soldiers were injured, according to Reuters.

Despite the ceasefire that began on April 16, fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continues in southern Lebanon, according to Le Monde. Hezbollah is shelling Israel with rockets, and the Israeli army continues to attack both on the ground and from the air, demolishing entire villages in the border area.

Many internally displaced people who returned when the ceasefire was announced are now on the run again, writes L’Orient Today.

Lebanon wants to see an extended ceasefire with Israel

Lebanon will propose that the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel be extended by a month when the countries meet in Washington tomorrow, a Lebanese source told AFP.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said earlier on Wednesday that work was underway to extend the ceasefire, which came into effect last week and is currently set to expire on Sunday.
