The change of power in Hungary

Hungarian election winner Péter Magyar: Give us Russian oil

Hungarian election winner Péter Magyar is calling on Ukraine to open the Druzhba oil pipeline as soon as it is operational, Reuters reports.

He is also calling on Russia to resume oil supplies to Hungary via the pipeline.

Yesterday, outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that he would veto a €90 billion EU loan to Ukraine if the pipeline is opened.

Orbán said he had received signals from Ukraine that it could happen as early as Monday. The other week, Ukrainian President Zelensky promised that the pipeline would be repaired and operational soon.

Magyar invites Netanyahu – but intends to arrest him

On Wednesday, Hungary's incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar invited his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to Budapest this fall, on the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Uprising, according to the Israeli government.

However, last week he also announced that he intends to stop his predecessor Viktor Orbán's decision to revoke Hungary's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

- If a country is an ICC member and a wanted person enters the country, he must be arrested, he told reporters, according to AFP.

Magyar added that he had made this clear to Netanyahu, who has had an arrest warrant for war crimes issued against him by the ICC since 2024.
