The future of the Democrats
Harris: I'm thinking about running for president
Kamala Harris today gave her clearest signal yet about plans to run for president in 2028, reports Politico.
- Well, maybe, maybe. I'm thinking about it. I'll keep you updated, she said at an event with the civil rights network National Action Network, founded by Baptist pastor and Democrat profile Al Sharpton.
Harris has made hints before, but the fact that she is now doing it on stage in front of an audience full of influential black power figures gives it new weight, according to the political site.
- I know what the job entails, she told Sharpton on stage, and the audience responded with shouts that she should run again.
The President's New Buildings
Trump Shows Drawing of 76-meter-high Triumphal Arch
The Trump administration today showed a drawing of a 76-meter-high triumphal arch that the president wants to build in Washington DC, reports the Washington Post.
76 meters equals 250 feet, a symbolic height because the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary this year. The administration has now begun the process of seeking permission for the controversial building.
The drawing, made by the architectural firm Harrison Design, shows, among other things, gold lions, a winged Statue of Liberty and the inscription "One nation under God".
The triumphal arch is planned for the Memorial Circle roundabout, near the Arlington Memorial Cemetery. No timetable or cost estimate has been published yet.
Peace Council
Sources: Money for Trump's "peace council" in Gaza has run out
Trump's so-called peace council in Gaza has run out of money, sources with insight told Reuters.
According to the sources, the council has only received a fraction of the $17 billion that the various member states promised.
Of the ten countries that have promised to finance the council, only Morocco, the United Arab Emirates and the United States have contributed money, according to one of the sources. In total, it is said to be less than $1 billion.
The war against Iran has "affected everything", according to the source.
According to a Palestinian source, the council has informed Hamas and Palestinian actors that the committee of Palestinian technocrats that is supposed to govern Gaza cannot enter Gaza because "no money is currently available".
Trump's Peace Council - the point
- Donald Trump has established a new "peace council" with the aim of promoting global peace, to which over 60 countries, including Sweden, have been invited.
- The council was officially presented at a signing ceremony in Davos on January 22, 2026, but several European countries, including Sweden, France, Norway and the United Kingdom, have declined to participate.
- According to the statutes, the final decision-making power is concentrated in Trump himself, and permanent membership requires a fee of one billion dollars.
- The initiative has been met with skepticism and criticism, especially in Europe, where many question the council's legitimacy and its relationship to the UN Security Council.
- Despite resistance, countries such as Hungary, Argentina, Israel and Egypt have accepted the invitation
