China says it played an active role in the ceasefire between Iran and the US and welcomes the agreement.

US President Donald Trump also says that China contributed to bringing Iran to the negotiating table.

– Yes, they did, Trump replies to the AFP news agency's direct question about whether China was involved in bringing Tehran to the agreement.

China's Foreign Ministry emphasizes that it will "continue to try to alleviate the situation" and achieve a complete end to the Iran war, which began with the US and Israeli attacks on February 28.

"We have repeatedly reported on the attempts made by China," says spokeswoman Mao Ning, adding that Foreign Minister Wang Yi has had 26 telephone conversations with colleagues in the countries concerned and that China's Middle East envoy has been on a shuttle service in the war-torn region.
