Tens of thousands of French people protest against sexual violence

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in various French cities on Saturday to protest against sexual violence against children.

The demonstrators carried placards and shouted slogans about protecting children.

This comes after the rape and murder of the eleven-year-old girl Lyhanna in Fleurance in southwestern France in June.

The murder of the girl has sparked great anger and led to demands for the resignation of Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin.

The demonstrations were held in about 110 cities across France, including in Dijon in the east and in Toulouse in the south.

In Paris, people demonstrated in what organizers call a “historic mobilization against sexual violence.” According to the organizers, 100,000 people participated.

Behind the march were 180 organizations that demand new legislation to combat violence, work on prevention and support victims.
