Couple at the top of the Empire State Building

A man and a woman climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in New York.

They carried a message:

"When the power of love overcomes the desire for power, the world will experience peace."

The people were dressed in black and wore masks as they climbed to the top of the Empire State Building with a large banner.

A live broadcast from the AP news agency shows the couple then descending to a platform. There they kiss and hold each other.

The man also appears to have proposed to the woman, according to the video.

The couple is the influencer couple Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus. They climbed down and were arrested by the New York police, reports the New York Post.

Has happened before

On his Instagram, Nikolau himself posted a video from the top of the tower.

“Right now on the Empire State Building,” she writes.

It’s not the first time someone has climbed all the way to the top.

32 years ago, climber Alain Robert, known as the “French Spider-Man,” reached the top of the skyscraper with his bare hands and feet. He was also arrested shortly afterwards.

The Empire State Building is 443 meters tall.
