White House accused of misleading donors ahead of the 250th anniversary celebration
Democrats in the US House of Representatives are accusing the Trump-backed organization Freedom 250 and the White House of misleading private donors, The Washington Post reports.
According to a new report, money intended for the congressionally established anniversary organization America250 was instead directed to Freedom 250.
Freedom 250, which was launched by Donald Trump last year to organize events in connection with the 250th anniversary, denies the allegations and calls the report a partisan political attack.
- This is nothing more than an attempt to create division, said spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez in a statement.
America250 declined to comment on the specifics of the Democrats' report, The Washington Post reports. The organization is planning events across the country during the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Miller: The United States must think carefully about pregnant travelers
The US Supreme Court this week upheld the right to citizenship at birth, something Donald Trump wanted to limit. The president has called it a form of "birth tourism". Now the question is raised about banning pregnant women from obtaining visas or entering the United States.
When Trump's close advisor Stephen Miller was a guest on Fox News on Tuesday, he was asked by host Jesse Watters, The Hill reports.
- You now have to think very carefully about who you let into the country, even temporarily, because there is a risk of birth tourism, Miller said.
Traveling to the United States for the purpose of giving birth and thereby giving the child American citizenship is already illegal, The Hill writes.
According to the US Census Bureau, an estimated 26,000 children are born each year as a result of so-called “birth tourism.”
