Midterm elections in the US

Steve Bannon: “We are seeing the old politics die”

Neither the Democratic nor the Republican leadership is keeping up with the political change taking place in the US. This is what Donald Trump’s former advisor Steve Bannon says in an interview with Politico.

Left-wing Democrats, also known as progressives, are gaining ground in the primaries ahead of the midterm elections this fall.

“We are facing a new politics. We are seeing the old politics die before our eyes,” says Bannon.

According to him, the progressive phalanx has managed to attract a group of voters that Democrats previously took for granted, while the Republicans lack an effective response.

Bannon also believes that it is no longer the candidate with the largest campaign fund who necessarily emerges victorious in an election. According to him, the Republicans cannot meet the economic vision of the progressives with traditional methods.

Progressives win again in Democratic primaries

Left-leaning candidates within the Democratic Party, the so-called progressive phalanx, continue to gain ground in the party's primaries ahead of the midterm elections. On Tuesday, 29-year-old social democrat Melat Kiros defeated incumbent Congresswoman Diana DeGette in the Colorado primary, CNN reports.

Kiros' victory is seen as another setback for the Democratic establishment after two progressive candidates in New York last week also defeated incumbent members who had the support of the party leadership.

- We are winning from coast to coast, at all political levels. We are taking back our party and our country, Kiros said in his victory speech.

According to CNN, Kiros' victory shows that the left-wing movement continues to gain ground around the country in its attempts to change the Democrats ahead of the midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election.
