Trump's USA ICE operations

Joan Sebastian shot dead by ICE – was not a target

26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero, who was shot dead by US immigration police ICE in Biddeford, Maine yesterday, was not the target of the operation. Senator Angus King told CNN. He is demanding a “full, comprehensive and transparent investigation” into the incident.

– Did this young man really try to run over an ICE agent, or did he risk running over other people on the street, Angus said.

Initially, the Department of Homeland Security claimed that ICE had tried to stop “an illegal immigrant”. However, the department later changed its information and stated that the 26-year-old who was shot dead had permission to stay in the country and was not a target of the operation. Many details about the incident are still unknown, but surveillance footage from the scene shows Joan Sebastian Guerrero's car slowly driving in circles at an intersection before being stopped by ICE agents. When the car stopped, his body appeared to fall out of the car.

This is the second time in a week that ICE has shot and killed a person.

Report: 412 cases of excessive force against ICE protesters

On at least 412 occasions in the past year, police in the United States have used excessive force against ICE protesters, which has in several cases resulted in permanent injuries. This is shown by a report from two American human rights organizations, The Guardian writes.

The report documents a total of 203 injuries, including blindness, brain injuries, cuts, broken bones and bruises. The doctor and co-author Rohini Haar believes that there is an undercount and that there are probably many more injured.

– This is worrying, says Haar, who works for the organization Physicians for Human Rights.

The Guardian highlights, for example, how American Senator Andy Kim was pepper sprayed by ICE police in connection with a demonstration in New Jersey at the beginning of the summer.
