Reports of new explosions near the Strait of Hormuz

New explosions were heard near the Strait of Hormuz at noon on Monday, news agencies report.

According to the state-run Mehr, both media and private individuals have reported explosions near Bandar Abbas and the island of Qeshm.

It is unclear who is behind the attacks, but Iran and the US have exchanged fire during the night.

One person has been killed and at least four have been injured in new American attacks on Iran during the night, Iranian media reported according to TT. The US military command Centcom writes on X that the aim of the attacks is to break down Iran's "ability to attack civilian seafarers and commercial ships that freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz".

Iran says the attacks have rendered recent months of peace talks between the countries “meaningless.” In response, Iran has attacked US military bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
