Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigns

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has officially submitted her resignation to parliament, according to speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, according to Reuters.

Her resignation, after just one year in office, is part of a government reshuffle that President Volodymyr Zelensky has said is required as Ukraine changes its political strategy.

Parliament will look into the matter in the near future in accordance with established procedures, writes Ruslan Stefanchuk in a post on X.

The process of establishing a new government could begin as early as tomorrow.

Prime Minister's departure surprises: "Strange situation"

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko's resignation after just one year in office has led to speculation within the ruling party about the real motives behind the decision, writes Kyiv Independent.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, it is part of a government reshuffle that is required when Ukraine changes its political strategy. But the announcement is said to have come as a surprise to several party members.

- It is a strange situation, says a member who sees no obvious reason why Svyrydenko would leave.

- It looks like a preventive move, the member continues.

The last time Zelenskyj carried out a major government reshuffle was in January this year. Then, among other things, Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak had to leave after a major corruption scandal.
