Midterm elections in the USA
Republicans are betting on Trump ahead of the midterm elections
Republicans in even congressional districts are increasingly choosing to campaign with Donald Trump ahead of the 2026 midterm elections – despite the president's weak opinion polls. This is reported by The Hill.
It had been expected that Republicans in swing states would avoid inviting Trump so as not to alienate centrist voters. But more and more are choosing to embrace him instead in the hope of mobilizing the Republican voter base.
– We want the highest possible voter turnout. The 2024 presidential election showed that when everyone goes and votes, we succeed, says Congressman Ryan Mackenzie from Pennsylvania to The Hill.
Mackenzie is one of the Republicans whose seat in the House of Representatives Democrats hope to win. Democrats believe that the close connection to Trump could hurt Republicans in regular elections and accuse them of instead putting loyalty to the president before the voters.
US Attack on Venezuela New Government
Sources: Marco Rubio rules Venezuela from the US
After the capture of Nicolás Maduro, Donald Trump toyed with the idea of placing Marco Rubio in Venezuela to rule the country. Today, it has become half a reality – the US Secretary of State effectively rules Venezuela from Washington, several sources in both countries told the New York Times.
Despite never having visited the country, Rubio controls its finances, natural resources and government, according to the sources. He is in regular contact with the US-approved interim president, Delcy Rodríguez – they have a Whatsapp chat where they write in Spanish and exchange gossip, selfies and birthday wishes.
Outwardly, Rubio downplays his role in Venezuela. The governments of both countries do not want to comment on the information.
The President's New Luxury Plane
Reporters to be questioned after article about Trump's luxury plane
Several journalists at The New York Times are being forced to be questioned by the Trump administration after an article about security flaws on the president's brand new Air Force One, several media outlets report.
Trump traveled home from the NATO summit in Ankara this week in his old Air Force One, which according to sources at The New York Times was due to security flaws on the new plane. The White House has denied the information, and now several reporters are being forced to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan about the reporting.
"The fact that federal law enforcement agents are showing up on the doorsteps of news reporters should provoke strong reactions from every American who believes in the Constitution and the freedom of the press it protects," writes the newspaper's lawyer David McCraw.
Sources: FBI Director Fly In to Investigate Reporters
FBI Director Kash Patel was flown to Washington DC on Friday to lead the investigation into New York Times reporters, sources told the newspaper.
Patel spent a total of eight hours at the White House. Investigations are usually led from FBI headquarters. On Friday night, several NYT reporters were called in for questioning.
Donald Trump is said to have been furious over the newspaper's reporting that the new Air Force One plane, donated by Qatar, lacks the defensive capabilities of the previous plane.
On Saturday, Trump also launched several lengthy attacks on NYT reporter Maggie Haberman after she discussed questions about the president's health.
"She has made a living from her poor reporting, and will pay the price when our multi-billion dollar lawsuit against the failed New York Times is heard in court," he writes on Truth Social.
