Trump: We should control Ukraine's nuclear power plants
In
a conversation between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the US
president suggested that the US take control of Ukraine's nuclear power
plants, the Financial Times reports.
In a summary of the
conversation, written by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national
security adviser Mike Waltz, Trump said the US could be "very helpful in
operating these facilities with its expertise in electricity and supply
systems".
They add that Trump said that US ownership of the
nuclear power plants would be "the best protection" for Ukrainian energy
infrastructure.
It is not clear how Zelensky views the proposal.
In talks with Trump, both he and Russia's Vladimir Putin agreed to
pause attacks on the energy sector for 30 days.
Zelenskyj confirms paused attacks: “There could be peace this year”
Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelenskyj believes that a lasting peace can be
achieved during the year, he writes in a post on X after Wednesday’s
phone call with Donald Trump.
He confirms the information that Ukraine has agreed to pause attacks on Russian energy facilities and other infrastructure.
“I had a positive, meaningful and sincere conversation with US President Donald Trump,” Zelenskyj writes.
According
to the White House, the presidents spoke about Ukraine’s need to
strengthen its air defense. Trump has reportedly promised to see if that
type of equipment can be sent from European countries.
Trump: Had a very good conversation with Zelenskyj
Donald Trump has had a “very good” phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyj. He writes on Truth Social.
“We agree on a lot,” he writes, adding that the call lasted about an hour.
Yesterday,
Donald Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin about a possible ceasefire in
Ukraine. Russia agreed to a limited one for 30 days in which attacks on
“energy and infrastructure” will be suspended. But hours later, the
power grid was knocked out in the Ukrainian city of Slovyansk.
Trump writes that much of what was discussed in the call with Zelenskyj was based on the call with Putin.
The call was the first between the leaders after the row in the White House a few weeks ago.
