The fire under control – no sabotage suspected

The fire that caused it at Heathrow is under control, London's fire service announced, according to AFP.

The fire service will remain on the scene throughout the day and an investigation has been launched to find out the origin of the fire. According to British Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, there is currently nothing to indicate any sabotage.

- The focus is now on restoring power as quickly as they can to Heathrow, he tells BBC one.

Counter-terrorism police investigate the fire at Heathrow

The British counter-terrorism police have taken over the investigation into the transformer fire in London that has disrupted traffic at Heathrow airport, reports Sky News.

This is due to "the location of the transformer station and the impact the incident has had on critical national infrastructure".

So far, there are no signs that any crime has been committed in connection with the fire, the police add.

Hundreds of thousands of travelers affected: “Logistical nightmare”

Hundreds of thousands of travelers are affected by the fire that has left Heathrow without power. The airport is one of the world’s busiest and at least 1,350 flights to and from Heathrow have already been affected, according to the website Flightradar24.

According to Heathrow, the fire will lead to “extensive disruption” in the coming days.

Airlines around the world will be grappling with a “logistical nightmare,” Neil Hansford, head of the Sydney-based consultancy Strategic Aviation Solutions, tells The Guardian.

Swedish travelers are also affected. Seven departures and arrivals are canceled at Arlanda and three at Landvetter on Friday, Swedavia tells TT.
