Sources: Starmer discusses air patrols over Ukraine

British fighter jets could patrol the airspace over Ukraine if a future peace agreement includes Western troops on the ground, The Telegraph reports.

According to the newspaper, the issue has been discussed as part of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's proposal that a "coalition of the willing" should constitute peacekeeping troops. Starmer has previously promised to station British troops in Ukraine if such a peace deal is negotiated.

– We would never send British troops on the ground without giving them air cover, says a source within the British Air Force.

Ukraine and Russia in different rooms during US talks

When the US holds talks with Ukraine and Russia in Saudi Arabia these days, the parties will not be sitting in the same room. This is according to US special envoy Keith Kellogg, according to Meduza.

– We will have one group in one room and one group in another. They will sit down, talk, go back and forth. A bit like shuttle diplomacy in a hotel, says Kellogg in an interview with ABC News.

The US delegation is led by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Mike Rubio and Pentagon policy director Michael Anton.

Exactly when the talks in Jeddah will take place is unclear – the White House says Sunday and the Kremlin says Monday.

The world's response
Germany provides 35 billion in military aid to Ukraine

Germany has approved a military aid package for Ukraine worth 3.25 billion euros, equivalent to just over 35 billion kronor, reports AFP.

The announcement comes just a couple of days before the US is expected to meet representatives from Russia and Ukraine to continue talks on a ceasefire.

The money is earmarked for defense equipment, including artillery ammunition and air defense systems.

Germany has seized oil tankers from the shadow fleet

German authorities have seized a tanker in the Baltic Sea that is suspected of being part of the Russian shadow fleet, sources report to Der Spiegel. The Panama-flagged ship "Eventin" has been anchored off the coast of the holiday island of Rügen since January.

The seizure means that the cargo of around 100,000 tons of oil, worth the equivalent of just under half a billion kronor, will go to the German state.

The fact that German authorities are going all the way and seizing the ship is seen as an unusually harsh signal against Russia, which is using the shadow fleet to circumvent sanctions against the country.
