Norwegian warning: Can't rule out Russian attack
Norwegian Defense Chief does not rule out Russia attacking Norway, he says in a British interview.
- We cannot rule out that Russia is grabbing a piece of land as part of their plan to protect their nuclear weapons capacity, which is the only thing they have left that actually threatens the United States.
This is what Norway's Defense Chief Eirik Kristoffersen says in an interview with The Guardian.
He admits that Russia hardly sees Norway as a legitimate target as Ukraine or other former Soviet states, but protecting its nuclear facilities on the Kola Peninsula is of strategic importance to Russia.
These facilities will be strategically important in a conflict with NATO, and must be protected, says Kristoffersen.
“They want to ensure that the capacity to respond to an attack is protected. That is a scenario in the Arctic region that we are planning for.”
